Quick answer
What is the difference between ISP, residential and datacenter proxies?
In ISP vs residential vs datacenter proxies, the difference is who registered the IP and where it runs. ISP proxies use consumer-ISP IPs hosted on datacenter servers and stay fixed; rotating residential proxies exit through consumer connections and change IP; datacenter proxies use hosting-network IPs. As of October 2026, SteadyProxy rents ISP IPs from $2.24 and datacenter IPs from $1.34 per 30 days, paid in crypto, no KYC.
What are the key facts?
| ISP proxy | IPv4 registered to a consumer ISP, hosted on datacenter servers, fixed for the rental |
|---|---|
| Residential (rotating) proxy | Exits through consumer connections in a vendor's peer network; IP changes; usually billed per GB |
| Datacenter proxy | IPv4 of a hosting network, fixed for the rental |
| Dedicated | One customer at a time during the rental; says nothing about the IP's earlier history |
| ISP prices, 19 Oct 2026 | MarsProxies $2.99 for 1 IP; Webshare $178.50 for 100 IPs; SteadyProxy $2.24 / $133.88 |
| Datacenter prices, 19 Oct 2026 | MarsProxies $1.99 for 1 IP; FloppyData $79 for 100 IPs; SteadyProxy $1.34 / $59.25 |
| SteadyProxy hosting | ISP (static residential) IPs are registered to consumer internet service providers but run on servers in datacenters, not on home devices |
How do ISP, residential and datacenter proxies compare?
Public prices were read on the vendors' pricing pages on 19 October 2026. A month is the vendor's own billing month.
| ISP (static residential) | Residential (rotating) | Datacenter | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Registration / ASN type | Consumer ISP (a broadband provider's ASN) | Consumer ISP or mobile carrier of the end connection | Hosting or cloud provider |
| Where it is hosted | Servers in a datacenter | Consumer devices and connections in a peer network | Servers in a datacenter |
| IP stability | Same IP for the whole rental (30 days here) | New IP per request or per sticky session | Same IP for the whole rental |
| Typical public price | Per IP per month: MarsProxies $2.99 (1 IP); Webshare $178.50, FloppyData $179, Bright Data $275 (100 IPs) | Per GB of traffic; not part of our 19 Oct 2026 check | Per IP per month: MarsProxies $1.99 (1 IP); FloppyData $79, Webshare $119, Bright Data $170 (100 IPs) |
| SteadyProxy price (30 days) | $2.24 (1 IP), $133.88 (100 IPs) | Not sold | $1.34 (1 IP), $59.25 (100 IPs) |
| IP database usage type | Often ISP (IP2Location "ISP", IPinfo ASN type "isp"); some databases label it hosting | Usually ISP or residential; mobile for carrier IPs | Hosting (IP2Location "DCH", MaxMind "hosting") |
| Best uses | Logins to your own or clients' business accounts, local ad and SEO checks | Large public-data jobs that need many IPs for a short time | Allowlisting, APIs, QA, tasks where network type does not matter |

What does ISP mean in "ISP proxy"?
ISP means the IP block is registered to a consumer internet service provider. Its WHOIS record and its ASN name a broadband provider, not a hosting company. The server that uses the IP, however, sits in a datacenter. That is the honest definition, and it applies to most products sold as "static residential" on the market. Our own: ISP (static residential) IPs are registered to consumer internet service providers but run on servers in datacenters, not on home devices. You can check any IP after delivery: an ASN lookup shows the registered network. The ISP proxy guide explains the details.
How do IP databases label each type?
IP databases give each IP a "usage type" built from its registration and other signals. Three widely used examples:
- IP2Location usage type: ISP (fixed-line ISP), MOB (mobile ISP), DCH (data center, web hosting or transit), COM (commercial) and others.
- MaxMind user type: residential, cellular, hosting, business and others.
- IPinfo ASN type: isp, hosting, business, education or government.
An ISP-registered IP usually inherits the ISP label. Some databases also test for hosting signals and may label it hosting. We do not promise any label. Check each IP in two or three databases after delivery.
How much does each type cost per IP or per GB?

Rotating residential proxies are sold per GB. Per-GB prices were not part of our 19 October 2026 check, so we do not quote one here.
How do SteadyProxy's prices compare with named vendors?
Compare at the same quantity and date. On 19 October 2026, MarsProxies listed one ISP IP at $2.99 for 30 days; our 1-IP ISP plan is $2.24. Webshare listed 100 dedicated ISP IPs at $178.50 a month; our 100-IP plan is $133.88, down to $1.34/IP · 30 days. The price per IP of our plans never rises with quantity. We make no claim about our price rank at other quantities or dates. Every dated price is in the static proxy price index 2026.
Which type should you choose for your job?
Choose by what the target checks:
- The exact address (a firewall, a partner API, a SaaS allowlist): a dedicated datacenter IP at $1.34 is enough.
- The network type and a stable login history (logins to your own or clients' business accounts on consumer platforms, local ad checks): an ISP IP at $2.24.
- Many different IPs for a short time (broad public-data collection): rotating residential, sold per GB by other vendors. SteadyProxy does not sell it.
The static vs rotating comparison covers the last choice in detail. All our plans are on the pricing page.
What is the difference between dedicated, private and shared IPs?
Dedicated means one customer uses the IP during the rental. Ours: Each static IP is rented to one customer for the whole 30-day period; reselling or sharing access with third parties is not allowed. Many vendors use "private" for the same idea, but neither word says anything about who used the IP before. Shared means several customers use the same IP at once. On 19 October 2026, Oxylabs listed shared ISP IPs at $1.5 per IP for up to 3 users, and Bright Data listed 10 shared ISP IPs at $18 against $35 for 10 dedicated ones.
Why do sellers call datacenter-hosted IPs residential?
Because the IP is registered to a consumer ISP, many sellers call it "static residential". The term describes the registration, not the location of the server. Real residential traffic exits through a consumer's own connection and device, which is what rotating residential pools use. A fixed IP for 30 days on a consumer-ISP block is, in practice, an IP hosted on a server. We think buyers should know that before they pay.
What else do buyers ask?
Is an ISP proxy the same as a static residential proxy?
In most of the market, yes. Both names describe an IP registered to a consumer ISP and kept fixed for the rental. At SteadyProxy the two names mean the same product: ISP (static residential) IPs are registered to consumer internet service providers but run on servers in datacenters, not on home devices. One ISP IP costs $2.24 for 30 days.
Can a website tell that an ISP proxy runs in a datacenter?
Sometimes. Registration data says ISP, but a website can also look at other signals, such as hosting labels in some IP databases or how the connection behaves. We do not promise that any target treats an ISP IP as a home connection. Test your own workflow with one IP before you order many.
Are ISP proxies faster than rotating residential proxies?
We publish no speed figures. In general, an ISP proxy runs on a datacenter server with a stable route, while a rotating residential connection depends on the end user's own line, which varies. Test speed with your own target and tools before you decide.
Which type is best for IP allowlisting?
A dedicated datacenter IP. The allowlist compares the exact address, so the network type does not matter, and a datacenter IP costs $1.34 for 30 days. Read the B2B allowlisting use case for the set-up with a backup IP. The how-to steps are in the IP allowlisting guide.
Does SteadyProxy sell rotating residential proxies?
No. SteadyProxy rents ISP (static residential) and dedicated datacenter IPs only, per IP for 30 days. Rotating residential proxies are billed per GB by other vendors. If your job needs thousands of short-lived IPs, a rotating product fits it better.
How do I check the ASN of my proxy IP after delivery?
Request https://ipinfo.io/json through the proxy. The "org" field shows the ASN number and the network name. An ISP IP shows a consumer internet provider; a datacenter IP shows a hosting company. A specific ISP or ASN can be ordered only when the checkout lists it; check the registered network of each IP after delivery.
Why is a dedicated datacenter IP cheaper than an ISP IP?
Vendors price ISP-registered IPs higher than hosting IPs across the market. The 19 October 2026 prices show it: MarsProxies listed $2.99 for one ISP IP and $1.99 for one datacenter IP. Our 1-IP plans are $2.24 and $1.34. Choose by what the target checks, not by price alone: an allowlist needs only the address.
