## What is a static residential proxy?

An ISP proxy is an IPv4 address registered to a consumer internet provider, hosted on a server in a datacenter. Its ASN and WHOIS name a broadband ISP, but the machine is not in a home. Almost every "static residential" product on the market works this way, ours included. ISP (static residential) IPs are registered to consumer internet service providers but run on servers in datacenters, not on home devices.

"Residential" describes the registration in the IP registry, not where the server sits. "Static" means the IP stays the same for the whole rental. Decodo says the same about its own product: ISP-issued IPs, not end-user devices. Read our [ISP proxy guide](https://steadyproxy.com/guides/what-is-an-isp-proxy/) for the full picture.

## Why do providers call the same product ISP or static residential?

Both names describe the same thing: a fixed IP registered to a consumer ISP and hosted in a datacenter. Webshare, FloppyData, ProxyEmpire, Decodo and IPRoyal use "static residential". MarsProxies, Bright Data, Oxylabs, Rayobyte and GhostConnect use "ISP". Compare them as one category. The [best ISP proxies](https://steadyproxy.com/compare/best-isp-proxies/) page ranks the same market by the 10-IP price.

## How can you check where a static residential IP is hosted?

Look up the IP's ASN once it is delivered. Open https://ipinfo.io/json through the proxy and read the "org" field: it shows the ASN and the network name. For an ISP proxy, it should name a consumer internet provider, not a hosting company. A specific ISP or ASN can be ordered only when the checkout lists it; check the registered network of each IP after delivery.

## What happens when a static residential IP stops working?

Each provider has its own replacement rule, and the limits matter more than the headline price. IPRoyal replaces one IP per new order within 24 hours, under 500 MB used. Rayobyte gives one free replacement per IP per month. Decodo charges $0.70 per IP and excludes crypto purchases. A replacement is a different IP, so update your allowlists. SteadyProxy applies one rule. If an IP does not work, write to support: we repair it or replace it with another IP in the same country when stock allows.

## What else do buyers ask about static residential proxies?

### Are static residential proxies hosted in homes?

In almost every case, no. A static residential proxy is an IP registered to a consumer ISP and run on a datacenter server. That is how it stays fixed and fast. Products that route through real home connections usually rotate and are sold per GB. SteadyProxy's ISP IPs are datacenter-hosted, as stated on every product page.

### What is the difference between static residential and rotating residential proxies?

A static residential proxy keeps one IP for the whole rental and is billed per IP. A rotating residential proxy changes IP often and is billed per GB. Static IPs suit accounts and allowlists that need one stable address. Rotating IPs suit wide public-data collection. Our [static vs rotating page](https://steadyproxy.com/static-vs-rotating-residential-proxies/) explains the trade-offs.

### How much does a static residential proxy cost in 2026?

On 19 October 2026 the median dedicated price was $3.00 per IP at 10 IPs and $2.60 at 100 IPs. Single IPs cost $2.99 at MarsProxies and $3.50 at ProxyEmpire. SteadyProxy charges $2.24 for one IP and $133.88 for 100, each for 30 days.

### Can I choose the city or ISP of a static residential IP?

Only where the provider lists it at checkout. ProxyEmpire offered country targeting only on 14 October 2026. At SteadyProxy, a city can be chosen only when the checkout lists it; otherwise the IP is allocated in the country you pick. The same rule applies to a specific ISP or ASN.

### Which static residential provider keeps the same IP at renewal?

Decodo documents that renewal keeps the same IPs if you do not change locations. Webshare and Rayobyte keep IPs while the subscription stays active. At SteadyProxy, renewal is manual from your balance. Keeping the same IP after the end date is not guaranteed, so renew before the end date and check your IP list.

### Can I pay for static residential proxies in crypto without KYC?

Yes. On 19 October 2026, ProxyEmpire stated no KYC to buy a plan and accepted crypto. FloppyData accepts crypto and showed no KYC rule. SteadyProxy takes BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC with no ID, no selfie and no documents. IPRoyal accepts crypto but requires KYC for static residential users.
